Your brain is the most remarkable organ in your body.
Every thought, emotion, movement and memory depends upon billions of nerve cells communicating with one another in precisely coordinated patterns. These patterns influence how we think, feel, learn, concentrate, sleep and respond to the world around us.
When these communication networks become less efficient, the brain may find it more difficult to regulate itself. This can influence attention, emotional regulation, sleep, resilience, sensory processing and many other aspects of everyday life.
Neurofeedback is a gentle, non-invasive training approach that helps the brain learn to regulate its own activity more efficiently.
Rather than introducing medication or stimulation into the body, neurofeedback provides the brain with real-time information about its own activity, encouraging healthier and more efficient patterns over time.
At Optimal Health Clinic, neurofeedback is never offered as a standalone treatment.
Like every service we provide, your journey begins with a free 30 minute initial consultation, allowing us to understand your concerns, discuss your goals and determine whether neurofeedback is likely to benefit your individual circumstances.
If we both feel that neurofeedback is appropriate, you will then undertake our Comprehensive Functional Health Assessment and Personalised Recommendations. Together with your consultation, this enables us to develop a detailed understanding of your health before making any recommendations.
Where appropriate, your programme will also include a comprehensive 19 Lead EEG Brain Mapping Assessment using the Mind Media NeXus Q32 system.
This assessment provides valuable information about the way different regions of your brain are functioning and forms the foundation of your personalised neurofeedback programme.
Our goal is not simply to observe brain activity.
Our goal is to help your brain become more flexible, resilient and efficient, supporting improvements that continue beyond your training sessions.
Every neurofeedback programme begins with understanding how your brain is functioning.
Where clinically appropriate, we carry out a 19 Lead EEG Brain Mapping Assessment using the Mind Media NeXus Q32 system. Small sensors are placed on the scalp to record the brain’s natural electrical activity.
The assessment is comfortable, non-invasive and simply measures brainwave activity. Nothing is delivered into the brain.
The information gathered during your assessment is carefully analysed to identify patterns of brain activity that may be contributing to your current difficulties. This detailed analysis helps us understand how different regions of the brain are communicating and provides the foundation for your personalised training programme.
Following your assessment, we will explain your results in clear, easy to understand language and discuss how they relate to your individual health goals.
Your neurofeedback programme is then developed specifically around your assessment findings.
Training is carried out using the Mind Media NeXus 10 system. During each session, you simply relax and watch a film or visual display.
As your brain produces the patterns we are encouraging, the programme continues to play. If your brain moves away from these patterns, the film or feedback pauses momentarily before continuing as your brain naturally returns to the desired activity.
There is nothing you need to consciously do to make the programme work.
Your brain gradually learns from the feedback it receives, strengthening more efficient patterns of activity through repetition and practice.
Your brain remains capable of learning throughout your lifetime.
This remarkable ability, known as neuroplasticity, allows the brain to adapt in response to experience, learning and training.
Neurofeedback works by using this natural capacity, providing real-time feedback that helps the brain recognise and reinforce healthier patterns of activity over time.
Every brain is unique.
No two people think, learn, process information or respond to life’s challenges in exactly the same way. For this reason, every neurofeedback programme at Optimal Health Clinic begins with understanding you as an individual before any training takes place.
During this appointment, we will listen to your concerns, discuss your health goals and explain how neurofeedback works. It is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and decide whether this approach feels right for you, with absolutely no obligation to proceed.
If we both feel that neurofeedback is appropriate, you will complete our Comprehensive Functional Health Assessment and Personalised Recommendations. Together with your 90 minute consultation, this provides us with a detailed understanding of your health, lifestyle, medical history and the wider factors that may be influencing your brain function.
Where clinically appropriate, your next step is a comprehensive 19 Lead EEG Brain Mapping Assessment using the Mind Media NeXus Q32 system. This assessment allows us to observe your brain's natural electrical activity and understand how different areas of the brain are communicating. The information is then carefully analysed to produce a detailed report, forming the foundation of your personalised neurofeedback programme.
Once your assessment has been completed, we will meet to discuss your results in detail. We will explain what your brain map tells us, answer any questions you may have and outline the training programme we believe is most appropriate for your individual needs. Neurofeedback is not about changing who you are. It is about helping your brain function more efficiently, allowing you to build upon your existing strengths while supporting areas that may benefit from further development.
Following your 19 Lead EEG Brain Mapping Assessment, we develop a neurofeedback programme that is entirely individual to you.
There is no standard protocol.
Your programme is based upon your assessment findings, your health goals and the way your brain is functioning at the time of your assessment.
During each session, you simply relax while watching a film or visual display. The neurofeedback software continuously monitors your brainwave activity, providing immediate feedback as your brain produces the patterns we are encouraging.
When your brain is working within these desired patterns, the programme continues uninterrupted. If your brain moves away from these patterns, the film or feedback briefly pauses before continuing again as your brain naturally returns to the desired activity.
There is no conscious effort required.
Your brain simply learns through feedback.
With repeated training, these healthier patterns become increasingly familiar, helping the brain regulate itself more efficiently over time.
As your programme progresses, we continually review your development and adapt your training to reflect the changes taking place.
The number of neurofeedback sessions recommended will depend upon your assessment findings, your goals and the way your brain responds during training.
Our goal is never to provide more sessions than are clinically appropriate.
Our goal is to give your brain the opportunity to develop healthier patterns that continue supporting you long after your formal training has finished.

Every recommendation is based upon your assessment, goals and individual circumstances.
At Optimal Health Clinic, we believe that effective neurofeedback begins with understanding the individual rather than simply observing brainwave activity.
The technology provides valuable information, but it is only one part of the process.
The real value lies in understanding how your brain is functioning, interpreting your assessment findings accurately and developing a programme that reflects your individual needs, strengths and goals.
Every neurofeedback programme begins with a comprehensive assessment. Where clinically appropriate, this includes a 19 Lead EEG Brain Mapping Assessment using the Mind Media NeXus Q32 system.
Training is then delivered using the Mind Media NeXus 10 Neurofeedback System, providing your brain with real-time feedback that supports learning and self-regulation.
Throughout your programme, we continually review your progress and adjust your training where appropriate, ensuring your programme evolves alongside your development.
Where appropriate, neurofeedback may also be integrated with other services offered at Optimal Health Clinic, including Biofeedback, Buteyko Breathing, Psychotherapy, EMDR and our wider Functional Health programmes.
Any combination of therapies is only recommended following careful assessment and when we believe it is likely to provide additional benefit for your individual circumstances.
We are committed to working within our professional scope of practice at all times. If we believe another healthcare professional or service would better support part of your journey, we will always discuss this openly with you.

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive form of brain training that helps your brain learn to regulate its own activity more efficiently through real-time feedback.
Rather than introducing stimulation or medication, neurofeedback simply provides information that allows the brain to learn from its own activity.
A 19 Lead EEG Brain Mapping Assessment records the brain's natural electrical activity using sensors placed on the scalp.
The assessment provides detailed information about how different regions of the brain are functioning and forms the foundation of your personalised neurofeedback programme.
No. The sensors simply record your brain's natural electrical activity.
Nothing is delivered into your brain during either the assessment or the neurofeedback training sessions.
The procedure is completely non-invasive.
During your session, you simply relax while watching a film or visual display.
The neurofeedback software monitors your brainwave activity in real time. As your brain produces the patterns we are encouraging, the programme continues uninterrupted.
If your brain moves away from those patterns, the feedback pauses briefly before continuing again as your brain naturally returns to the desired activity.
The learning takes place automatically without conscious effort.
Following your 19 Lead EEG Brain Mapping Assessment and comprehensive analysis, we will discuss your results and provide an individual recommendation regarding the expected number of neurofeedback sessions.
Every programme is tailored to the individual, and the number of sessions recommended will depend upon your assessment findings, your goals and your progress throughout the programme.
Yes. Where clinically appropriate, neurofeedback may be combined with other services offered at Optimal Health Clinic, including Biofeedback, Buteyko Breathing, Psychotherapy, EMDR and our wider Functional Health programmes.
Any combination of therapies is only recommended following careful assessment to ensure it is appropriate for your individual circumstances.
Although neurofeedback may benefit many people, it is not appropriate for every individual or every situation.
Your initial consultation and Comprehensive Functional Health Assessment help us determine whether neurofeedback is the right approach for you.
If we believe another therapy or referral would better meet your needs, we will always discuss this with you.
No. Neurofeedback is not designed to change who you are.
Its purpose is to help your brain function more efficiently, supporting improved self-regulation while allowing your natural strengths, abilities and personality to remain uniquely yours.
A typical Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy session lasts approximately 60 minutes but sessions can last up to 90 minutes  and twice per day depending on the protocol, although your first appointment is often slightly longer to allow time for you to orientate yourself with the process and chamber.
