Psychotherapy and EMDR Therapy

Every person has a unique story.

Our experiences, relationships, physical health, environment and significant life events all shape how we think, feel and respond to the world around us. Whilst two people may experience similar difficulties, the reasons those difficulties have developed are often very different.

Psychotherapy and EMDR Therapy

Understanding you, not just the challenges you are facing

At Optimal Health Clinic, we believe that effective therapy begins by understanding you as an individual rather than focusing solely on symptoms or diagnosis.

Psychotherapy provides a safe, confidential and compassionate space where you can explore your experiences, develop greater self understanding and work towards meaningful, lasting change.

Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, low self esteem, relationship difficulties, grief, emotional overwhelm or simply feel that something is not quite right, you will be met with kindness, respect and without judgement.

Psychotherapy and EMDR Therapy

A personalised approach to therapy

Your journey begins with a free 30 minute initial consultation.

This gives us the opportunity to understand your concerns, discuss your goals and help you decide whether psychotherapy is the most appropriate approach for your individual circumstances. There is absolutely no obligation to proceed.

If we both feel that therapy is appropriate, you will then attend an initial 90 minute consultation. This allows us to gain a detailed understanding of your life experiences, current challenges, personal strengths and the outcomes you hope to achieve through therapy.

Where appropriate, we may also recommend our Comprehensive Functional Health Assessment and Personalised Recommendations. Emotional wellbeing is never explained by physical health alone, but understanding factors such as sleep, breathing, stress, nutrition and general health can sometimes provide valuable insight into your overall wellbeing and help us develop the most appropriate recommendations.

Psychotherapy is never about applying a technique.

It is about understanding the person.

Our aim is not simply to help you overcome today’s difficulties. Our aim is to help you develop the understanding, confidence and resilience to continue moving forwards long after therapy has ended.

Psychotherapy and EMDR Therapy

How does Psychotherapy and EMDR Therapy work?

Although it is commonly called Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, it is the combination of increased atmospheric pressure and oxygen that creates the therapeutic environment. During a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy session, you spend time inside a pressurised chamber. The increased atmospheric pressure allows the body to absorb higher levels of oxygen than it would usually be able to under normal conditions.

HBOT is often chosen by people who are looking to support their recovery, resilience and overall wellbeing. It can also be considered as part of a broader health optimisation plan alongside lifestyle changes, nutrition, functional health recommendations and other supportive therapies.

At Optimal Health Clinic, HBOT is not offered as a one-size-fits-all treatment. We consider your wider health picture, goals and personal circumstances before making recommendations.

In simpler terms

Psychotherapy and EMDR provide a safe, supportive space to understand your thoughts, emotions and experiences, helping you process difficult memories and move forward with greater confidence.

Therapy is always collaborative.

Pathways

Your Journey at Optimal Health Clinic

Everyone comes to Optimal Health Clinic for a different reason. Some clients want to recover and feel more energised. Others want support with stress, sleep, hormones, pelvic health, inflammation, mood, focus or long-term wellness.

Our team can help you understand which therapies may be suitable and how they can work together as part of a wider wellbeing plan.

Free 30 minute initial consultation

Your journey starts with a free 30 minute initial consultation. This gives us the opportunity to discuss your concerns, answer any questions you may have and help you decide whether psychotherapy is the right approach for your individual circumstances. There is absolutely no obligation to proceed.

Initial 90 minute consultation

If you decide to continue, we will arrange your initial 90 minute consultation. This allows us to explore your current concerns, significant life experiences, personal strengths, relationships and the goals you would like to achieve through therapy.

Personalised therapeutic programme

Following your consultation, we will work together to develop a personalised therapeutic programme based upon your individual needs rather than following a predetermined pathway. Some clients benefit from psychotherapy alone. For others, approaches such as EMDR may become an important part of therapy when traumatic or distressing experiences continue to influence thoughts, emotions or behaviours. Any decision to introduce EMDR is always made collaboratively, following careful assessment and only when we both feel that it is appropriate, safe and likely to support your therapeutic goals.

Review and support

Throughout your journey, we regularly review your progress together, adapting our approach as your understanding grows and your needs evolve. There is no expectation to move at a particular pace. Therapy progresses according to your readiness, your goals and what feels manageable for you.

Choosing the right therapy

Developing your personalised therapy programme

No two people experience life in exactly the same way.

Even when individuals present with similar difficulties, the experiences that have shaped them, the meaning they attach to those experiences and the way they respond emotionally are often very different.

For this reason, every therapy programme at Optimal Health Clinic is individually designed.

Depending upon your needs, therapy may involve one or a combination of evidence informed approaches, including supportive psychotherapy and, where appropriate, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, EMDR.

If EMDR is considered beneficial, we spend time preparing together before beginning any trauma processing.

Preparation is one of the most important stages of EMDR therapy. It involves developing emotional regulation skills, strengthening your internal resources and ensuring that you feel safe, supported and confident before progressing further.

You remain in control of what you choose to discuss and the pace at which therapy progresses.

Our role is not to tell you what to think or how to live your life.

Our role is to provide a safe, compassionate and professionally informed environment where you feel supported to better understand yourself and create lasting change.

Our Practitioner

Clinical Expertise You Can Trust

Choosing a therapist is one of the most important decisions you can make for your emotional health and wellbeing.

At Optimal Health Clinic, we believe that successful therapy is built upon trust, compassion, professional integrity and a genuine therapeutic relationship.

Our therapeutic work is led by an Integrative Psychotherapist with a Doctorate, specialising in working with children, young people and trauma, who is also a qualified EMDR Therapist.

Professional knowledge, clinical experience and ongoing professional development provide the foundation for understanding attachment, child development, trauma, neuroscience, emotional wellbeing and evidence informed psychological practice.

However, qualifications alone do not make an effective therapist.

Every person brings their own experiences, relationships, strengths, values and aspirations. Rather than applying a single therapeutic model to everyone, we believe it is our responsibility to understand the individual first and then draw upon the therapeutic approaches that are most appropriate for their unique circumstances.

Creating a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship always comes first.

Before introducing EMDR or exploring particularly distressing experiences, we ensure that you have the emotional resources, understanding and confidence to engage safely in the therapeutic process.

Where appropriate, therapy may also be complemented by other services offered at Optimal Health Clinic, including Buteyko Breathing, Biofeedback, Neurofeedback and our wider Functional Health programmes.

If, following a comprehensive assessment, we believe that another therapeutic approach or specialist service would better meet your needs, we will always discuss this openly with you and support you in accessing the most appropriate care.
